create alias freyja_(toaru_majutsu_no_index) -> freyja_(index)
create alias high_priest_(toaru_majutsu_no_index) -> high_priest_(index)
create alias security_robot_(toaru_majutsu_no_index) -> security_robot_(index)
create alias salome_(toaru_majutsu_no_index) -> salome_(index)
create alias tsushima_(toaru_majutsu_no_index) -> tsushima_(index)
create alias doppelganger_(toaru_kagaku_no_railgun) -> doppelganger_(railgun)
create alias dolly_(toaru_kagaku_no_railgun) -> dolly_(railgun)

Aliasing other qualified minor character tags for consistency. There was another minor character with a railgun qualifier so I've included toaru kagaku no railgun characters too. We could go the other way and use the full copyright name instead but I'm not sure if there's another popular copyright that could be easily mistaken for index or railgun.

What about going from _(index) to _(to_aru)? Afaik the series as a whole (including spinoffs) is usually known as "To aru".

How recognizable though is that versus Index? I understand that it's how the naming in Japanese works, but I feel it's not as well recognized elsewhere.

Imo they're fairly recognizable. If we want to get into specifics, the series' titles go To Aru * (To Aru Majutsu no Index, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, To Aru Kagaku no Accelerator...), not * Index.

There are multiple other manga and light novel series that have a name starting with とある (Toaru/To Aru), just make a search at mangaupdates.com, or lndb.info, or some other database to see what I'm talking about. One of them has two anime adaptations ( https://anidb.net/anime/7478 & https://anidb.net/anime/9888 ) and a bunch of images here at Danbooru. See copytags at post #1661491 and hikuushi_series wiki.

Those other titles are nowhere nearly as popular, but I still think that using toaru/to_aru as a qualifier is a bad idea.

Use the full series name as the qualifier. There's already precedence for this when the short name of the series is too ambiguous (topic #18600). For myself at least, it causes a cognitive disconnect when people mention the series as "index", instead of the more proper "toaru majutso no index". This very topic is about qualifying the character Index because "index" by itself is way too ambiguous.

Anyways, I downvoted both BURs because I'd like to see the full name being used.

I had an idea that perhaps we can use _(index-railgun), or _(index/railgun), or something like that, as a universal qualifier for the whole series?

Alternatively, if the above idea is not good for some reason, then I would support using full series name.

I think we should just go ahead and use the full title (Toaru Majutsu no Index) as the qualifier. It's long, but *_(to_aru) doesn't work and *_(index) is still a little ambiguous and I think less common than calling it the Toaru series.

This sounds much better now. I second this.

Though, come to think about it what about the minor Kagaku/Scientific series (i.e. not Railgun) moving forward? Use their own qualifiers ("...no Accelerator", "...no Dark Matter"), or just default to Toaru Majutsu no Index? As I understand it all the Kagaku/Scientific series (including Railgun) are technically sidestory spinoffs and have full names of "Toaru Majutsu no Index Gaiden: Toaru Kagaku no *INSERT PHRASE*...", so using a single blanket _(Toaru Majutsu no Index) qualifier wouldn't be wrong, and also helps alleviate some potential confusion when a character is introduced in the primary Toaru Majutsu series but takes on a more prominent role in a spinoff.

But if the community prefers separate series qualifiers, we can stick with that.

Well, the rest of the series already implies Toaru Majutsu no Index, so we're already treating it as the umbrella tag for the whole series.
