Traditionally the BUR is correct, in the fictional world of art not so much.

Geta being unable to auto-imply sandals because of non-traditional geta footwear seems like the opposite of what's happening with furisode in topic #25987. The English Wikipedia article (link) only ever mentions sandals; the only western influences listed are a change in shape:
