God when I went to Japan absolutely nothing could have prepared me for how ungodly fucking LOUD those things are. We get cicadas every some years where I live, but they are nothing, NOTHING compared to Japanese cicadas.
Poor girl gonna live for just around a month. Or possibly just a week or two in an urban environment.

I wonder how it compares to the North American "periodical cicadas" that have synchronized emergences, so come out in large swarms. Those can also get very loud.

She finally got her wish but she's not going to live long to enjoy it.
The Twitter post is flooded with comments mentioning or alluding to that fact.
Outside World
Emergence
The cicada finally travels outside after spending several years living underground.
