Legendary Creatures clarification/cleanup

Posted under Tags

The legendary creature tags should be used on pictures that feature said legendary creatures, not anything else. Random posts of Takanashi Kiara shouldn't have the phoenix tag just because she's inspired by it, much less things like Phoenix (Azur Lane), whose namesake ship is technically named after the city in Arizona and not the mythological creature. post #2887137 and post #196641 are good uses of it, but a lot of the tag is canon tagged nonsense (like post #5728339, seriously?)

These tags are always going to have gardening work to do because canon taggers can't help themselves. Qilin (mythology) has a qualifier and still gets things like post #5916842 and post #5853915 because Ganyu is canonically half-Qilin.

As for phoenix girl, two of the posts don't belong and the other two can probably be safely moved to bird girl. Otherwise the tag can be safely nuked/deprecated, unless anyone else thinks there's a genuine use for the tag with other untagged posts.

Both of those are because the tag is linked in their wikis so people will keep clicking it when uploading/tagging.

People *should* know better and tag only the suggestions they see rather than all of them (though I know that's not the case in practice). Many wiki pages link to counter-examples, or simply related concepts, which makes perfect sense as far as Wikis go (that's how they work after all), but leads to a similar issue to this when it comes to auto-suggestion. I wonder if we should have a way to mark wiki links with markup that causes them not to show in the "suggested tags" interface.

I'm extremely tempted to remove wiki-based tag suggestions entirely, for these reasons and others.

I find wiki-based tag suggestions extremely useful personally, although I see the point you're making.
You could hide them behind an option, ban abusers from using them, or make them available only to some user levels, like Tag Script.

We usually ban people that abuse them, the problem is that sometimes it takes a really long time until we notice and at that point someone has to go through all of their uploads to clean them out, and not many users are willing to do that.

I would prefer replacing the wiki tags on the edit tags box with a dedicated related tags section so this doesn't happen. I am extremely strongly against completely removing the ability to edit tags this way, since it significantly speeds up tagging so I don't lose my mind typing the exact same clothing for every upload of a character. Lots of anime characters have the stupidest fucking outfits, and sometimes I can't remember what exact tag is needed for every piece of the outfit.

The reality is that most of the abuse comes from power uploaders, many of which are Builders and above. For this to work it'd end up only being available for a handful of members that are often too busy to use it anyway, which is essentially no different from removing it entirely.
