Tag Alias: solid_circle_eyes <-> •_•

Posted under General

I (temporarily) tested •_•...

  • Posts can be tagged "•_•" and this tag is searchable, even though it becomes unsearchable when I type http://danbooru.donmai.us/wiki/show?title=%95_%95 directly in the address bar.
  • And, everyone knows this, but it's important: we have o_o for white-filled circle eyes.

So, I think it's a good idea making "•_•" available by aliasing •_• -> solid circle eyes.

The percent sign is not an untypable character; it's a special character used in SQL queries to denote a wildcard, so it probably got sanitized from search queries and database entries, therefore making it unsearchable. If it didn't have that issue, the percent sign would be permissible to use in tags, like the exclamation point.

I also don't think anyone would actually tag something •_• by going out of their way to copy-paste it or memorizing the alt code for the • character.

Just as a side note, I do that kind of stuff in other contexts. The alt code for • is 0149.

But seriously, Danbooru does not even use Latin letters with diacritics. So, − 1. (Just for the hell of it, I copy-pasted the correct minus sign from Wikipedia.)

We only use tags that can be typed on a keyboard, for convenience.

More specifically, on a keyboard with the U.S. QWERTY layout. :p

but we have the tag alias with (9)...

A good point, yet I would argue that one is exceptional and far more intuitive and unambiguous than •_•.
