Madoka Magica Movie 3 character tagging (SPOILERS)

post #1665984 has started a message discussion between me and another user, specifically should it (and other similar posts) be tagged with Homulilly, seeing as Homura is a witch for most of Rebellion, even if not a completely transformed one

she hasn't hatched yet. At that point she's not yet Homulilly, and only transforms when she forcefully increases her despair later on. Removing

When we first see her in that dress it's 1:12:40(in my release) and "now he is" has just begun playing. At 1:20(in my release) "I cursed myself" begins playing and QB says "You're raising a curse on yourself?" That is when the final phase of the transformation begins. It is also worth noting that at that point she no longer has a blanket, but she only has the blanket during "now he is".
You'll notice that people only tag Homulilly where she has completed her transformation and is shown in her witch form. Otherwise, we'd have to slap either a Homulilly tag or a akuma_homura on each Rebellion picture with Homura, since she's a "half-witch" for the most of the movie. For ease of access people decided they'd only tag the witch in pictures where the transformation is complete, and for consistency that is how all pictures should be approached.

What people decided that? I'll manually tag every instance of Homura in that dress as Homulilly. It's not the FULL transformation, but it is stage one - when she knows she's the witch. You should also tag every instance of Homura with earrings as Akuma Homura.

I'm doing the second already, but it's clearly stated by QB that she hasn't completed her transformation before raising the curse manually. What is more, we get a few minutes long explanation of how she gradually loses her sense of reality during the actual final transformation. Before the final stage she still thinks clearly, so she isn't truly a witch. If you still feel like the community's usual tagging sense isn't good, you can open a topic in the forums

If you looked at what you yourself uploaded, you'd know that pixiv has a separate tag for Homulilly.

Why shouldn't we? There is no reason to not at least allow somebody to tag it, just like you should be able to tag any instance of Homura with purple eyes and the earring - or simply the earring if it's black and white - as Akuma Homura.

Except that's not a tag for Homulilly. ゴスほむ is "Goth Homu". Also used apparently is 喪服ほむら (mourning dress Homura). I'm not sure if it quite fits in with the so-far underused funeral_dress tag, but in any case it needs either an akemi_homura + (consistently-tagged attire) search or a tag of its own. homulilly should really only be used for the Gekidan Inu Curry designs of the witch or any fan work more strictly based off of that (such as pre-Movie-3 personifications)

akuma_homura should also NOT be used for instances of Homura with the earring. That tag strikes me as specifically referring to that winged black-dressed form and including her in school uniform is diluting the purpose of the tag.

I'm not sure about the akuma_homura thing. In that part, her transformation to akuma_homura is complete, so wings or not, her earring is a certain sign that she rules over the universe. Well, if costume's the convention we take, alright, but it's definitely not an equivalent case of the partial transformation we consider here, and I think we should discuss it separately.

I would push for a further edit. That Homulilly's involved at all's spoilery, but trailers for the film do show Homura cracking her Soul Gem, so it's already in the realm of pre-viewing speculation.

Yeah, I'm a bit uneasy about that, so I went ahead and did that further edit. People that actually know what "Homulilly" is before seeing the movie (such as knowing the name from PSP game information) would be spoiled, not to mention having "Homu" in her name may be enough at that to be suspicious. And we don't need to create different specific threads threads either.

This pretty much mirrors what was done with "Moemura" (see topic #5642): the distinctive traits (like twin braids and/or glasses in that case) should be tagged.

I have taken the liberty to tag the pre-transformation Homura as "akemi_homura ~funeral_dress" in appropriate posts from "akemi_homura ~mahou_shoujo_madoka_magica_movie -akuma_homura".

Ah, good. I added it to several images that include her in that outfit from akuma_homura ~dual_persona ~multiple_persona as well.

I'm disappointed with this decision, but I suppose this is why I stick to pixiv for the most part.

Well, what I've suggested here (and that all they are so far: suggestions. No final decision has really been made) with Homura tagging is pretty similar to how she's tagged on Pixiv. Looking at the actual Homulilly tag on Pixiv, there's not much of plain Homura in a funeral dress without any of the witch form characteristics. There are a few results of Homura with school uniform and single earring in the 悪魔ほむら tag, but it's rare compared to the form the term is most associated with. There actually does appear to be a separate tag for her end of movie appearance: ほむら様" (Homura-sama).
