Is there any difference between the Heart-Breaking and Soul Crushingly Depressing pools?

It depends more of the original context than the uploader's perception. Because you can't compare between a dramatical goodbye, for example, with the assasination or dead of a charismatic or main character.
This is one criteria, there are others, you can read those pools to clarify that, furthermore those pools can be edited.
S holmes has it right about perception and context. That said, the two pools justifiably have distinct moods.
Heartbreaking has breakups, family issues and a certain kind of romantic tragedy at someone or something you'll miss, with a bittersweet positivity. It leaves you with mixed feelings of joy and sadness, such as someone visiting a grave, seeing the ghosts of loved ones, growing up or graduating, or final goodbyes.
Soul-crushingly depressing covers darker territory, such as existential dread, mortality and futile situations, and is exceptionally negative. There's raw violence and injury, suffering is more explicit, and instances of poverty, powerlessness and abuse are rampant, leaving a desolate mood with no silver lining.
The pools should stay apart to preserve this, as they present different levels of tragedy. It's one thing to be sad at a farewell and another to see someone be maimed or tortured. Though to be fair, it's true that both pools contain posts that crossover or can be easily placed in either.
