Unconventional brooms

Posted under General

So I got a cool witch's broom idea and wanted to look through here to find out if I'd be inadvertadly ripping somebody off first.

The problem: "broom -touhou" still nets 31 pages of hits. So I'll propose an "unconventional broom" tag, which would cover things like high-tech brooms (ex: post #333925)

I didn't find very many just now but I'm know there's more of them on Danbooru. Likely just not tagged Broom.

EDIT: Actually, after literally hours of looking I just found the broomstick tag, which seems to be witch-specific but has no wiki page clarifying this. So should all witches have Broomstick instead of Broom?

Geez this turned into a royal mess.

For the latter part, I'd suggest a broomstick -> broom implication. I could make a wiki page explaining the difference (brooms are used for sweeping, broomsticks are used for riding) and add the tag to all relevant posts.

However, considering the vast amount of broom posts which would actually refer to broomsticks in this situation, the latter would most likely become the dominant tag, and I imagine one could also find a lot of posts that fit in a gray area, so keeping the tags separate could be the best choice.

We could also just alias broomstick to broom, taking into account the fact that, at the moment, most broomstick posts are tagged as broom anyways, which makes the tag itself pointless for people trying to find broomsticks.

There, I think I've argued each side. Suggestions?

Another example of unconventional brooms are those from sumaga. They're currently labeled as staves but it does indeed specify that they're brooms (the absolutely beautiful fireworks on the back are apparently the bristles).

The big problem with broom_riding is that it wouldn't cover my example image. That right there means that it won't solve the problem.

The broom images are mainly divided into miko/maids, and witches. So should we say that if a witch has a broom, she's likely going to ride it at some point so we'd call it a broomstick? And if this is the case, shouldn't the implication be broom_riding -> broomstick?

I'm on vacation this week and will have some free time at some point where I won't be able to use my computer for anything but basic websurfing, so I'll offer to clean up the tags and make the relevant wiki pages once we decide what we're doing. I don't think my user level can do aliases or implications tho, if those are needed.

I've already gone through danbooru's pics and didn't find anything to conflict with the design I want to use, so this is all in the past for me. But I would like to make it easier on other people in the future.

I'm going to go ahead and suggest the broomstick -> broom implication and clean up the tags once it gets passed (if it does). After the editing is done, anyone wanting to find the less common broom specific pictures can search "broom -broomstick". I'll also add the broom_riding tag to all relevant posts. Once again, I'll only do this if the implication is passed. In the meantime, feel free to add the unconventional broom tag to any relevant posts if you'd like. I personally see no problem with users adding their own tags as long as they aren't subjective, but I guess it's not for me to say.
