Submarines: How to add auxiliary tags?

Should change how we handle submarines? Technically, not all submarines are military vehicles (ex: post #2299477, post #2246879, post #2097030), just most of them. Since the civilian variety is so far and few between, should we create a new tag called "civilian_submarine"?

This would allow us to add some implications to the submarine tag.

On a side note, submarines are traditionally called boats because of legacy (they used to be carried by ships), though they are very oversized to be called a boat nowadays.

So given the creation of the "civilian_submarine" tag, should submarines...
1. Imply warship, (which would add ship + military vehicle)
2. Create a new tag warboat, which would imply both military vehicle and boat (could add patrol boats in this case), and have submarine imply warboat
3. Imply military vehicle and boat directly
4. Just imply military vehicle

Else, we would need to manually tag...
5. warship
6. warboat
7. military vehicle + boat
8. military vehicle

Thoughts?

If anything, submarine should just imply military vehicle. Despite being called boats (or ships), I think submarines are too visually distinct to imply either tag.

I don't see why submarine needs to imply anything apart from watercraft. Shoehorning them into the boat tag is definitely not the way to go; given that the popular definition of "boat" is generally limited to surface vessels, you'll just end up spamming the search results with a lot of false positives. And as you mentioned, making them imply military vehicle would be inappropriate for images like post #1432048.

As for the idea of creating a civilian submarine tag, it seems like a clunky workaround to the "problem" of having to manually tag military vehicle, and it comes with problems of its own. As a tag used on only a handful of posts, it would likely be forgotten by most uploaders, who would tag civilian submarines as submarine anyway. And what is now a simple, intuitive one-tag search would become a cumbersome ~submarine ~civilian_submarine search. I can't say I would support doing that.

Probably best to go with option #8: add military vehicle where necessary and call it a day. It's not like there are thousands of pages of submarine posts.

It certainly wouldn't hurt. It's unfortunate that a lot of users here don't consult the wiki nearly as often as they should (just look at the search results for detached_sleeves miko and see what I mean), but for those that do, linking to relevant tags in the wiki can help immensely. It also automatically creates a link in the "Related Tags" section of the tag editor, which may be helpful even for users who have never looked at the wiki.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I myself find the Related Tags function immensely useful. Anyways, I updated the submarine wiki.
