Post order of a collection-type pool

Posted under General

Are there any particular rules/guidelines regarding the post order of a collection-type pool? Sometimes I come across old posts that fit a pool but for some reason or the other have never been added to it, so I do so, but then I wonder if I should edit the order of the posts so that these old ones get shifted back to where they logically should be (i.e. among similarly old posts). This then made me wonder if we shouldn't just reorder all posts in such collection pools so that they're in chronologically ascending order (according to their post numbers, that is).

So... Is there any rule/guideline about this?

No need... if you search by pool:IDNUMBER from the tag search, or click "Posts" in the Pool SubBar, it orders the posts chronologically.

There's also pools like the Disgustingly Adorable (pool #903), with very strong language in the description about not moving posts from the first page...

So I'd have to say that it varies from collection to collection on whether it's safe to reorder posts willy nilly or not...

I'd say you're probably safe for reordering posts after the first page (first 100 posts) if that's something you really want to do. Just be aware that when pools reach a certain size (100 I think), the Order function disappears from the SubBar. For those you need to use the Edit function from the SubBar and arrange the posts manually. Since some of the pools are quite large, I'd suggest using a computer program for this. Finally, when ordering posts this way, it's quite easy to delete posts in the pool if you're moving things around. Therefore, double check everything before you submit, and after you submit, check the pool History from the SubBar to ensure that no posts were deleted from the pool.
