Well, that's the best way I have to describe it.
Currently, there's 7 copyright tags for .hack// stuff:
.hack// (the generic franchise)
.hack//dusk (the manga/second anime)
.hack//g.u. (the second set of games)
.hack//liminality (OVA series, unimportant to this, has only one post)
.hack//games (only games, as opposed to the whole franchise)
.hack//roots (third anime)
.hack//sign (first anime)
Thereās a couple problems with several tags
.hack//dusk: There is no such copyright. Dusk is a popular mistranslation of ātasogareā, from the original ā.hack//Tasogare no Udewa Densetsuā. The actual name in English is .hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet. I think I already rambled enough about why Iād prefer the English title (seriously, it even says the exact same thing, only more people can understand it) but do whatever you see fit. In addition, it is sometimes colloquially called ā.hack//UdeDenā in Japan, an abbreviation of Udewa Densetsu.
.hack//roots: The tag is painfully misused. I think Iāve seen a grand total of one image of a character that appears only in the anime, the rest are just Tabby or Haseo, and not even Haseo in his beginner model he used in the anime. Since Roots is part of the whole G.U. segment of the franchise and there are virtually no images of anyone that doesnāt appear in the game, I really see very little purpose for this one, itād be like tagging the individual G.U. games. Mass edition possible?
.hack//games: This one just seems redundant. Itās somewhat of an arbitrary separation for game-only images that just excludes SIGN and what little there is of UdeDen. UNLESS the tag was originally meant for what Iām about to say and got confused along the way:
Whatever youād call the original four games: Infection, Mutation, Outbreak and Quarantine. I think Iāve seen ā.hack//IMOQā used as a nickname, though this section of the franchise doesnāt have a proper name like G.U. does. However, there ARE a couple of these game-only images around and unlike Roots and G.U., the cast of the games is for the most part unique to them and doesnāt mix (too much) with SIGN or the rest. Iām willing to go and tag those images myself, but I thought Iād ask since itās basically a tag Iām somewhat making up myself.
