Kimi no Na Wa/Your Name and spoilers

Posted under Tags

I'm wondering exactly which parts of the film we should count as spoilers and therefore tag accordingly, because it currently seems inconsistent.

The comet/meteor strike?
Taki and Mitsuha meeting on the train?
Taki and Mitsuha meeting at twilight on the lip of the mountain crater?
Their older versions and meeting in the final scene?

Honestly I'm not all too sure... I noticed you've been tagging quite a few posts with spoilers and I think it's a safe bet, but to me if there's too little context behind an image, then I don't think it's very easy to spoil with someone.

  • Meteor strike is an obvious spoiler.
  • Meeting on the train is an obvious spoiler, e.g. post #2548646
  • Meeting on the crater at twilight is MAYBE a spoiler, but honestly this goes so unmarked on pixiv that if you haven't watched the movie you probably already know that's going to happen
  • Scenes of older Taki and Mitsuha together is probably what you think might be spoiler, but I typically don't tag these as spoiler since they aren't blatantly obvious.

Just some of my thoughts.

I would say that the following are what should be considered spoilers:

-Anything alluding to the meteor strike, but not the comet since it's a recurring thing in the movie that seems insignificant at first.
-Anything explaining how they met in a train. Especially if it mentions the time of the meeting.
-Adult Taki and Mitsuha.
-Anything related to Taki and Mitsuha's efforts to save the town from the meteor strike.
-Anything referencing the where-they-are-now scenes of the survivors near the end.
-Anything alluding that they forgot each other.

I'm not sure about the mountain crater scene, since a picture alone won't spoil what happens there but knowing that they will meet will likely spoil that scene even though the more important part about that scene happens afterwards. So I think this one's a bit borderline.

Probably a bit too specific and cautious, but that's my two cents on the matter.

It's a good movie, extremely worth watching. I watched that crappy pixelated-to-all-hell leaked preview copy though, and even though I enjoyed it I wish the quality didn't ruin the experience so much. :c

Hasn't even premiered in the US aside from AX, wait is killer.

I'm unsure about the train meeting because, while I agree that what actually happened there is a spoiler, Mitsuha throwing her hair braided cord to Taki is first shown very early with limited context.
