Danbooru vs. Rule34

Posted under General

Well, let's see. Even though I had to create a new account, computer issues, I think I've been on Danbooru for at least a year under the alias "ZombieAmoeba" ..Uh, forgot the silly password. Okay, my concern is the whole Rule34 thing. How hard would it be to turn Danbooru into a complete Rule34 site? I mean yes, I know there are 34 sites out there but, none of them are set up like Danbooru is. Which kind of frusrtates me, that is until I realize that not all sites are the same and what not.. What I'm saying is that you can go to a 34 site and type in "Will_Smith" and get a few pics that the Fresh Prince wouldn't approve of. Here, you type in "Rule_34" and get maybe one pic that he wouldn't like.

I guess my point is that if we're able to put in blue_hair and green_eyes and what not, I think it would be nice if we were able to type in a disney character's name and get pics that we sure as hell couldn't show our younger sibs. Hell, that way, everybody and their momz would want to come to Danbooru. It'll save them the hastle of finding Rule 34 sites. They can come here and get EVERYTHING they need: red_hair, blue_skin AND kim_possible...or something like that. This is just an idea. I have no idea how to run a website. So no, I have no idea how hard it is for the admin and mods. ..I mean..if it's possible.

Before you guys jump all over him I believe he means run a rule 34 site based on the danbooru api, which there sort of is one but it's heavily modified (and possibly based on v1 code) and tags vary from tagme to character + series and nothing more.

To answer part of your question, any of the *boorus depend heavily on the userbase. Tags don't generate themseleves, so your users have to be OCD to a degree.

In case you haven't noticed, most of the forum frequenters don't much care for the general populace of danbooru. Getting more leeching users isn't at all what danbooru wants.

I'm also going to mention that danbooru's focus is on good artwork. That said, most rule 34 was hastily drawn or (generally) bad.

Also danbooru isn't about porn.

I think this is a bad idea, personally. "Rule 34" is by nature a subjective tag, and we shy away from those. After all, who is to decide that what is being depicted is bizarre enough to warrant it?

I vote no.

It's generally off topic for danbooru anyway. There's not a lot of true anime style Disney art being drawn by Japanese artists out there that isn't related to Kingdom Hearts. Or rather it's not in places where danbooru users upload from. Can't say I'm disappointed about that, honestly. =P
