[REJECTED] Tag alias: lucy -> kaede

Not being a reader of the manga I've only ever heard of her as "Lucy", and it appears that she isn't called by her original name for much of the story (spoiler?). Kaede is also a very common name that shouldn't be used as a tag without a qualifier.

It's true that Kaede a very common name, good point. Come to think of it, Lucy is a very common name too, so if we settled for "Lucy" maybe it should be lucy_(elfen_lied) (not just lucy as it currently is).

I'll say my humble opinion now. Other people don't have to agree with me, this is just what I think.

I'd rather use the manga as the main source of Elfen Lied information, not the anime.

A few spoilers below:

The manga is the original work. The anime basically only adapts the first half the story of the manga. In my opinion, it seems reasonable to think that the manga is the "true" story.

The anime basically copies the manga scene by scene, but even some of the scenes that made it to the anime tend to be shorter and simpler. Some characters don't exist in the anime (poor Nozomi, Anna etc.) or their characterization or backstory sometimes seems to be lacking in comparison with the manga.

I happen to have a bit of a negative opinion about the anime as an adaptation of the manga.

Kaede's name is revealed only at the end of the story. This seems much like Atem from Yu-Gi-Oh!, whose real name is revealed late in the story. We have the tag "Atem" using his real name.

However at the beginning of the story of Elfen Lied, people from the institution that holds Kaede admit they only call her "Lucy" because they don't know her real name.

I would be OK with kaede_(elfen_lied). We already have a few tags with that qualifier like nana_(elfen_lied) and mayu_(elfen_lied).

In fact, I originally typed kaede_(elfen_lied) for this request, but then quickly edited it to kaede once I realized the latter is currently unused. That said, I realize you're right that the tag should have a qualifier after all.

As someone who has read the manga in question: I don't see an issue with keeping her tagged as Lucy (though it should be changed to lucy (elfen lied), the fact that it's remained unqualified for so long is something of any oversight as such general tags shouldn't be used on principle). He real name is revealed incredibly late and, although it isn't exactly a spoiler, I have literally never seen any fans refer to her by her real name in context: she is always referred to as either Lucy (real self) and Nyuu (amnesia self). These are also the names used in official promotional materials.

If, for some reason, we decided to use Kaede, we would consequently have to alias lucy (elfen lied) to kaede (elfen lied) because that is what fans are searching for. I haven't exactly figured out how to use (or if I can use) the missed searches thing but I'm fairly sure that data will back me up here.

I agree about having that alias. It's true that fans are searching for "Lucy".

For whatever it's worth, here are a few examples of fans referring to her as Kaede:

After that, I guess you can't honestly say these exact words anymore: "I have literally never seen any fans refer to her by her real name in context". (assuming you have a bit of spare time to check these links)

However it seems true that most people know her just as Lucy and Nyuu, not Kaede. Maybe this owes to the fact that the anime doesn't use Kaede at all (!) since the anime doesn't ever get to that part of the manga. Also the fact that her true name is revealed late in the manga.

Her being referred to as "Kaede" would fall into the category of spoilers for anyone who hasn't read or watched the story itself as you only ever know about "Nyuu" and "Lucy" with the latter being frequently used as the common name for her.
Even when it came to voting polls both in Japan, and in English including fan-run "tournaments" for favourite female characters she was only referred to with Lucy. Think アニメ最萌トーナメント, and the International Saimoe League for just some quick references to some rather well-known polls.
