Pokémon anime tags

Posted under Tags

Currently the tags for the Pokémon anime series based on each generation of games are as such:

pokemon_rgby - pokemon_(classic_anime)
pokemon_gsc - pokemon_(classic_anime)
pokemon_rse - pokemon_ag
pokemon_dppt - pokemon_dp_(anime)
pokemon_bw/pokemon_bw2 - pokemon_bw_(anime)
pokemon_xy - pokemon_xy_(anime)
pokemon_sm/pokemon_usum - pokemon_sm_(anime)

This is, I imagine, to mimic the practise of the game tags using each game in a generation's initials - for example, the seasons for pokemon_rse were tagged pokemon_ag as they are officially titled Pokémon Advanced Generation. Though the three most recent anime tags were also made using the official anime titles, they match the initials for the games these seasons are based off of which gives the impression that the naming convention is actually "pokemon_game_(anime)".

To remove potential confusion relating to the tags and to introduce some consistency, I'd like to suggest changing pokemon_ag and pokemon_dp_(anime) to pokemon_rse_(anime) and pokemon_dppt_(anime). They're not 100% factually correct, but they're much more intuitive and easy to use. pokemon_ag especially needs to change, as without even an _(anime) qualifier it looks to be another game tag at first glance.

I'm fine with the pokemon_(classic_anime) tag staying as it is though, because that series covers two generations of games at once and changing it to pokemon_rgby/gsc_(anime) just seems silly.

Shouldn't we go ahead and split pokemon_(classic_anime) into pokemon_rgby_(anime) and pokemon_gsc_(anime) too?

I'd thought about that, but trying to distinguish between those two series can become impossible since they share their main characters (who, in addition, wear exactly the same outfits for both series). For example, if we split it then there's no way of knowing whether post #3342212, post #3050170 or post #1220320 should be tagged as RGBY anime or GSC anime. The two are often lumped together as the "original series" on other sites presumably for the same reasons, so I think it's fine if we keep pokemon_(classic_anime).

create alias pokemon_ag -> pokemon_rse_(anime)
create alias pokemon_dp_(anime) -> pokemon_dppt_(anime)
create alias pokemon_rgby_(anime) -> pokemon_(classic_anime)
create alias pokemon_gsc_(anime) -> pokemon_(classic_anime)

@AndryZapdos - I took the liberty to add two aliases to the "classic anime" as you can see. I believe this is otherwise what you suggested above.

I'm OK with the idea as it is. Does it look good to you? Please let me know if anything needs to be changed.

Anyway, that looked pretty good. I'm unsure if we need "pokemon_rgby_(anime) -> pokemon_(classic_anime)" and "pokemon_gsc_(anime) -> pokemon_(classic_anime)" though, I don't think nearly enough people will erroneously use them to warrant aliases.

I'm requesting this one separately to be discussed if needed.

I still think the project of standardizing the Pokémon anime tags as "pokemon_game_(anime)" is a good idea. But unfortunately pokemon_(classic_anime) is going to be the odd one out, because it doesn't follow this naming system at all.

I think it would be nice to have these RGBY/GSC anime aliases too if that's alright. Then at least the pokemon_(classic_anime) will fit the naming system via the aliases.

I do too, but the general consensus around here seems to be that aliases should only be made sparingly when they're needed. You can make those alias requests if you want, I just don't think they'll be approved.
