The plug tag.

Any suggestions on what to call the "keep liquid from leaking out" plugs?

They are also called "stoppers", we don't have a tag for that currently, but something like drain_stopper would work, and would be distinct from other "plug"s.

For "plugs" in bottles and barrels, cork is perfectly adequate.

Those are also unambiguously known as bungs, should we feel a real need to separate from bottle corks. Apparantly this is currently used for two posts of an artist who should probably be disambiguated from the common noun.

Speaking of jack_plug what do people think about aliasing that to audio_jack? To me at least the latter is a common expression, and the former something you'd never hear anyone ever say.

It's funny you say that, because even before @kittey wrote a wiki for jack_plug and dealt with the mess of tags we previously had for these, jack_plug was the best populated one by a wide margin.

I would vote for trs_connector (tip/ring/sleeve) since that style of connector is used for quite a few more things than just audio.

I suspect that this term is even less well-known.

Using some tag with “audio” in it could be confusing because these plugs are also used for other stuff, such as power supplies and (old) telephones, and in some posts you can’t even see what they’re being used for. “trs connector” is only for the single-ring type but these plugs can have zero to three rings (ts to trrrs). jack plug is the most generic and application-neutral name for this kind of plug.

The original telephony purpose for these was still audio, and I'd argue that usage for power (which you do see) is pretty nonstandard, usually you see barrel connectors for low-voltage power purposes. That said, I don't have a real strong preference here, just saying I've never heard anyone say "jack plug". It's usually some sort of "jack" or some sort of "plug", but never both together (in my experience anyway).

TRS or TRRS is technically accurate, but also very technical. You don't see that description much outside of electronics suppliers.
