Sekaiju no Meikyuu

Currently, the tag Sekaiju no Meikyuu is used both for the series as a whole and for the first game in the series. Other games in the series implicate this tag. This seems contradictory to the tag's wiki, which state they have "their own tags". There is no tag specifically for the first game.

I think it would make more sense to have "Sekaiju no Meikyuu 1" for the first game and "Sekaiju no Meikyuu (series)" for the series, as we currently do with Splatoon (series), for example.

Previous discussion: topic #982, topic #4191. Basically, when Sekaiju no Meikyuu 2 came out, it implied Sekaiju no Meikyuu because the second game was more of an expansion than a full sequel. Then when Sekaiju no Meikyuu 3 came out, we let it imply Sekaiju no Meikyuu because we didn't know how to separate Sekaiju no Meikyuu into Sekaiju no Meikyuu 1 and Sekaiju no Meikyuu 2. Then when 4 and 5 came out, we kept going with Sekaiju no Meikyuu being the series tag, even though originally it was only for the first game.

We can rename the tag from Sekaiju no Meikyuu to Sekaiju no Meikyuu (series), but someone knowledgeable about this series will have to go back and populate the Sekaiju no Meikyuu 1 and Sekaiju no Meikyuu 2 tags.

Rename Sekaiju no Meikyuu and make it the umbrella tag for this series, as per above.

Gosh, it's been a while since those old forum threads. I'm not sure if Danbooru even had bulk updates or tag scripts back then.

My suggestion at the moment for some actions that would get the series most of the way to being properly umbrella-tagged would be:

• Execute evazion's BUR
• Mass tag ~doctor_magus ~gunner ~pet_(sekaiju) ~abigail_(sekaiju_no_meikyuu) ~artelind with sekaiju_no_meikyuu_2
• After doing the above, mass tag sekaiju_no_meikyuu -sekaiju_no_meikyuu_* -shin_sekaiju_no_meikyuu_* with sekaiju_no_meikyuu_1
• Finally, add a note to the relevant wiki pages explaining that art of game 1/2 should be tagged with sekaiju_no_meikyuu_1 unless it contains an obvious reference to sekaiju_no_meikyuu_2 (e.g. the gunner, or the text "Sekaiju no Meikyuu 2") in which case they should be tagged with sekaiju_no_meikyuu_2 instead

This may miss a couple of edge cases which will need to be manually fixed (e.g. group pictures which contain classes or NPCs from multiple games in the series) but I think it's a start.

Not directly related but seems to be the exact same issue with the Doom franchise, as Doom (game) tag refers to the original 1993 game but is frequently used as a umbrella tag for the other tagged games in the franchise (Doom II, Doom 64, Doom 3, Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal).

My suggestion would be:
Mass update Doom (game) for Doom (series), as the umbrella tag for the franchise, with Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal implicating the tag (as they have more than 50 posts)
And for the first Doom game, my suggestion for tag would be either Doom (1993) or maintain Doom (game). Doom I could be used too but doesn't seem very fitting in my opinion because the games don't use numerals in their name frequently.

DOOM ought to be its own thread, but the first game in the series usually gets a "1" or "I" appended on it. It's how most people will qualify the game in conversation, and it's not ambiguous like doom_(game) would be.

Okay, I took a closer look at the BUR, and I've edited it to where posts with a single sekaiju_no_meikyuu copyright tag get sekaiju_no_meikyuu_1 tagged. This frees up sekaiju_no_meikyuu to be a proper umbrella.

I'm trying to fix the improper sekaiju no meikyuu 1 tags, but there are many cases of people not tagging the game in the series, especially for sekaiju no maikyuu 2. Like there are over 250 of the Gunner alone. This should save some time and sanity.

"Gunner" is ambiguous. I think it, along with some other tags from the franchise, should have a qualifier.

What's wrong with it? If you mean to add Sekaiju no Meikyuu 2 to all Gunner posts, this is correct. You can also use a tag script (help:tag scripts) to do this.

The problem is that it wouldn't remove sekaiju no meikyuu 1. Now that I'm a builder (thanks, btw), I'll look into tag scripts.

To be honest (and despite my previous suggestion) it probably shouldn't, since some posts should be correctly tagged as both sekaiju no meikyuu 1 and sekaiju no meikyuu 2. post #1510110 for example.

It'll probably need to be gardened manually, which, while a hassle, isn't impossible for a total of about 300-400 posts.

I've taken care of it for sekaiju no meikyuu 2. We could use some more implications, but I'll do that in a different topic.
