City vs city lights vs cityscape vs skyline

Posted under Tags

cityscape = the urban equivalent of scenery.
city lights = the lights of a city - usually at night. Sometimes these lights are the only things that are visible of the city.
skyline = when the horizon is formed predominantly of buildings.
city = when a city forms the setting of the image.

None of them really want implications to any of the others.

cityscape = the urban equivalent of scenery.

Surely there's more to it than that. Otherwise by now we would have nuked it and told people to search for city scenery instead. Then again, there are quite a few posts under that tag where all you can see of the city is one or two out-of-focus buildings... almost completely obstructed by foreground characters... as seen through a bedroom window. So maybe some taggers are seeing something I'm missing.

Personally, I only use this tag for posts where a focal point of the image is the layout of the urban landscape or the aspects of everyday life within. For instance, post #1631568 is obviously set within a city, but it lacks the -scape part of a cityscape.
