Beach towel vs beach mat

beach towel and beach mat - what's the difference between these tags? It seems they are used for the same thing (something to lie on on beach)?

There does not appear to be a difference between the two tags. It seems that there might be a material difference between beach towels and beach mats, but given what is being tagged there appears to be no visual differences between the two. Given the common depictions under beach mat, it would be easy to argue that what is being depicted also has no material difference from what is being depicted under beach towel.

Real beach mats appear that they can also be made of plastics, straw, or be more rug like, but there is nothing under the tag that would reflect such things.

Yes, I thought that it's impossible to make the distinction. Should beach mat be aliased to beach towel then?
