kalashnikov_rifle

I was thinking I might be useful to have 'kalashnikov_rifle' as an umbrella term for any rifle direct lineage from the AK-47, AKM, AK-74, etc. Similar to the same way 'ar-15' exists for 'm4_carbine' or 'm16'.

I think it'd be useful in situations such as: an event where the variety of the rifle is non-descript beyond "AK"; an AK that is specifically "known" but no specific tag exists yet; or when the submitter isn't necessarily an expert but knowledgeable enough to tell an "AK" apart from a 'Galil', as an example.

No biggie, can just use the "Request alias/implication" link while you are on this thread. But I suppose some discussion wouldn't hurt first.

Don't see any harm. Unless people feel the tag isn't necessary, though I think we have enough examples for an umbrella tag. And sometimes, as Geneaux mentions, there's art popping up with a generic-looking gun that looks vaguely AK enough but doesn't have enough distinguishing features to identify a specific model.

An umbrella term for Kalashnikov-derivative assault rifles for simplicity's sake.

I'm not thrilled with implications like this because the gun hierarchy is ridiculously deep:

• weapon
• gun
• rifle
• assault rifle
• AK-47

Now with kalashnikov rifle, it means tagging a post with AK-47 will add 5 other tags. Gun tags have a bad tag amplification problem, where every time you tag a specific model of gun, four or five extra tags get added.
