Tag Alias: idolmaster -> idolm@ster

Posted under General

It's for consistancy, we need to have the alias one way or the other or else the tag could get fragmented.

I believe the rational behind the current direction was to favor standard Latin letters over symbols in titles (for example like where stars and hearts and such make their way into titles).

I'd vote to keep it as is.

My counter is that, unlike hearts and stars, "@" is easily typable. Also, just how is that circle-9 character even generated, let alone available for use?

⑨ can be typed using the Japanese IME, and so can ➈, 9, Ⅸ, ⅸ, ⒐, ⑼, ❾, ➒, ⁹, ₉, 九, ㊈, and ㈨.

There also exist in the Unicode specification ⓳, ⓽, 〩, ㍡, ㏨, 𝟗, 𝟡, 𝟫, 𝟵, 𝟿, 🀏, 🀘, 🀡, and many other 9s in various scripts.

Like I said, by using the Japanese IME (in Windows). Switch into hiragana input mode if you're not already in it (alt+` on most machines), then type 9, and spacebar until you select ⑨. Of course, there are many other ways to input the character, I'm sure.

I'm not entirely opposed to this, although I've never felt compelled to do it even though I knew about it. In its favor is that we have a number of other tags with @'s in them already. Most notably peace@pieces.

I'm inclined not to do it but I don't think it's a bad idea, necessarily. If it were a more unusual character, I'd definitely oppose.

But, and this only for curiosity now, how is it typed? One of those Ctrl/Alt+string-o-numbers things?

Compose (on my machine mapped to CapsLock), (, 9, ). Only works when using X11, because sadly nothing else supports the incredibly useful mechanism of Compose properly. Which pretty much means you can only use it on Linux, FreeBSD or other Unix-y system.
