As I've said before, newhalf implies futanari because futanari is one of the most blacklisted fetishes on the site, and I think most regular users don't see a difference between the two, nor do they care to learn. Nor should they have to. I'm not making thousands of users change their blacklists or learn new tags to filter out a fetish they hate, just because futa fetishists decided to subdivide the tag.
If you don't want newhalf posts in your futa search, you can blacklist newhalf or add -newhalf to your searches. If you think this is inconvenient, well, now you know how regular users feel when they have to filter out both newhalf and futanari separately.
I don't buy the "newhalf is transgender not futa" argument:
- Many posts tagged newhalf on Danbooru are explicitly tagged or called futa by the artist. There's no universal consensus that newhalf is not futa.
- Most newhalf posts are known characters who are explicitly not trans, they're canonically female characters magically drawn with a dick and balls. Just like futa. Most of these posts have no indication the artist meant for them to be trans and not futa.
- The only visual difference between a newhalf and a full-package futanari is whether you can see their taint to see whether they have a pussy or not. To non-futa fans, this makes no difference.
- People have been edit warring over the newhalf tag for nearly ten years, with many posts flip-flopping between newhalf and futanari, or even to otoko no ko, genderswap, or regular female.
- People usually don't tag actual trans characters like Hoshikawa Lily from Zombie Land Saga or Pas' Black-haired Catperson as newhalf. I expect newhalf fans would get really pissed off if you used their newhalf tag for real trans characters like this.
- We already have a transgender tag. You can use that if you want a tag for explicitly trans characters.
A lot of this feels like the "does liking futa make you gay?" argument, except taken seriously and boiling down to "it's gay when a futa has a dick and balls and no pussy, therefore that's a separate thing and not real futa". Meanwhile others think it's gay when the futa has balls and probably wish the futanari tag didn't include that either, while regular users probably think the whole thing is gay and don't want to see any of it.
We can't please everyone. Futanari is an all-inclusive term to please the majority of users who don't want to see any of it. If you're a futa fan, you can filter through the futanari tag to find the type of futa you like. There are so many different types of futa that this is something most people will probably have to do anyway.
