Missing implications.
If there's more missing this implication feel free to mention them so I can add them to the BUR.

Tags that probably shouldn't be implicated:

Tags I dunno:

  • boar mask Oftentimes it's an entire realistic boar 'head' instead of just a "mask".
  • oxygen mask Sometimes it's just a respirator with barely any "mask" bit.
  • pig mask The pig ones are fine, but it also has some boar masks tagged under it.
  • welding mask Sometimes it's one solid plate. Sometimes it's armor-like, almost a helm.

Some oddities:

  • eye mask
    • Wiki description sounds like it's identical to domino mask, but tag is also used for sleep masks and blindfolds plus some misc. weird masks and eyewear. Needs to be gardened, then either aliased to domino mask or nuked and turned into an ambiguous tag wiki.

Updated

Thank you for your help, NNescio.

I made simple wikis for all the tags without one.

I think another discussion needs to be made to discuss eye mask properly. Like you said it's too ambiguous.

Ran into hannya. On the surface it seems like a open-and-shut case for implicating to noh mask... but because of how the tag is named it is also used sporadically to tag the hannya "demon/youkai" (not just the mask), complicating things. e.g. post #2317648, post #4494781, post #4532341 (and probably a bunch of other Majima posts, because he canonically has that tattoo). Maybe that one can be split into hannya mask and hannya_(youkai) (no need for a separate hannya_tattoo tag yet, IMHO), and then we can implicate the former to noh mask. Or we can just leave it as it is, and update the wiki accordingly.

There's also Touhou's New Mask of Hope... which has issues when the mask isn't depicted as a mask, like in post #2188578. Maybe this one can be turned into a chartag, like Pyonta.

Anyhow, further discussion on these two should probably be moved into their own forum topics, like what you suggested for eye mask.

Edit: topic #19255 created for the eye_mask discussion.

Updated

  • removed chikuma mask because of posts parodying it, like post #1688877 or post #2028220
  • wolf mask has the same issue as boar mask, removed for now. We should think what to do with these "masks" that are often just pelts or other kinds of animal heads. We should probably handle them as normal masks, but I'd prefer to have a thread for it rather than hide it into a big BUR like this where there won't be any discussion about them.
  • I removed the four color mask implications because all the other colors are very small, and it doesn't look like they're getting any use. Given that mask has 50k posts, I'm not sure we need them at all because it seems nobody cares to use them.

Also, noh mask needs a wiki that says at least what it looks like, because there's a lot of fox masks tagged with it. See noh_mask fox_mask. For now I removed hyottoko_mask and noh mask from the BUR, make another one for it so we can sort that mess out.

For bird masks and beak masks, aren't they the same thing? The majority of posts under beak mask is a single arknight character, which tells me it's being tagged on canon. I removed it and opened topic #19275.
Also removed plague doctor mask -> beak mask for this reason.

Lastly, wrestling mask appears to be for masked people doing wrestling, with no actual features suggesting the masks themselves are any different from other random eye masks. See wrestling_mask rainbow_mika. luchador mask should be the main tag, and wrestling mask should be nuked into whatever mask tag is appropriate for each one.

And this is why it's a bad idea to open gigantic BURs and why they always die with no replies.

Kinda hard to write a wiki because it compromises... many masks, though I did what I could. Though in hindsight it was probably a bad idea to suggest the implication because the Hyottoko mask might not necessarily be a noh mask (can be a tiny thin paper mask, or a hair ornament).

So probably best tagged manually for now.

The fox mask tag is tricky, because there are noh fox masks, and then there are festival fox masks, and then shinto ritual fox masks... all of which might look highly similar so tagging noh mask in those cases is kinda dependent on whether there are any other noh masks in the scene (or whether there's a noh performance being depicted). It's also highly populated, with many Hata no Kokoro examples, so even just taking Kokoro examples (with the traditional Japanese-style fox mask) may risk flooding the noh mask tag.

There are certain fox masks designs unique to noh (with bushy facial hair and eyebrows), but those don't usually get depicted.

Edit: Huh, checked noh_mask fox_mask; most of them have other noh masks in them too. Ones with just a single fox mask are a minority. So, currently not too much of an issue then.
