BUR #6931 has been approved by @nonamethanks.

create alias n2_(nier_automata) -> red_girl_(nier)
create alias yorha_infantry_squad_commander -> yorha_commander

Third time is the charm i guess.
Restarting this thread under another user's suggestion.

---------------

I will leave the P2 discussion for later, for now let's focus on this one.

Explaination of the first one: forum #195210, forum #195301 (tl;dr she got three names, she is called Red Girl throughout the game(s) she appears in, but is called N2 and Terminal in in-game optional files. Red Girl would be a more intuitive and suitable name.)
Explaination of the second one: forum #195224 (tl;dr Yorha Infantry Squad Commander is her name ran through google translate. The correct name would be Yorha Commander or just Commander.)

Updated

For visibility regarding the latter alias here:

Japanese calls her ヨルハ部隊司令官 (YoRHa Unit Commander), ヨルハ司令官 (YoRHa Commander), or ホワイト (White), or even ヨルハ部隊ホワイト司令官 (YoRHa Unit Commander White). First form is preferred as a tag on fanart websites. Official (out-of-game) sources seem to prefer using ヨルハ部隊司令官(ホワイト), "YoRHa Unit Commander (White)", to cover all bases.

Anyway, I'd second using YoRHa_Commander as her "chartag". Unique enough (no qualifier necessary) and easy to find by typing "Yorha".

"Yorha Infantry Squad Commander" seems to be a mistranslation started by merch sites with machine-translated English versions. Using some kind of outdated poorly-tuned machine translator, I'd assume (I suspect excite.jp). 部隊 can refer to a "squad" in the informal sense (because some military/police units are squad-sized), which is likely how their dataset got 'poisoned'. Another possibility are things like "American infantry squad equipment" getting translated into ...部隊... because the formal term for "squad" in Japanese just feels kinda awkward to read sometimes.

(She's definitely not infantry. Nor a "squad commander". 司令官/Shireikan implies some kind of higher-level position, like a task force commander or someone at battalion/regiment level and above. And YoRHa Commander is basically the leader of an entire military "special forces" unit.)

"Infantry" is definitely not a part of the original name and "部隊" is pretty much a military unit of any size which I suppose we can just omit to retain the vagueness. I'll relent on this one.

BUR #6961 has been approved by @nonamethanks.

create alias yorha_no._2_type_p -> yorha_type_p_no._2
create alias 2p_(nier) -> yorha_type_p_no._2

Now for the spicy one.

  • Shouldn't this be aliased the other way around? This will look ugly put among the other Yorha tags.

Unlike 2B, 9S, and A2, and alike 6O and 21O, she has never been called by her full name. She only appeared in crossover events so far. The P designation doesn't exist in the original series, it's just a joke on "Player 2". For all we know "2P" may very well be her full name (which it may be, since in Nier Reincarnation she's stated to be a machine and not an android, so she's not part of the yorha forces.)
Therefore, Yorha No. 2 Type P is not an option.

I went with *_(nier) as qualifier since, despite not appearing in the Nier world, she has appeared in multiple Nier-related crossover events. Otherwise we should go with *_(soulcalibur) and it would look pretty ugly tbh

Reverse the alias.

Reverse the alias.

Asking to reverse the alias without giving any proof of the character being named like that would be like starting to use fake names out of assumption that their full name is like that. ("Mario_(nintendo) and Luigi_(nintendo) are ambiguous, so their full name is surely Mario Mario and Luigi Mario.")

Well, the official crossover trailer refers to her as Yorha Type P No. 2 so it's not a made up term.

Missed this, thank you. I will change the BUR to that then, although it's really obscure since i didn't even manage to find anything about that name until now.
This still leaves Operator 6O and Operator 21O looking "ugly" though. The reason why we don't use the full factory name is because they're never called Yorha No. 6 Type O, but that doesn't stand because there is a dozen of tags of other minor characters, which only appear in the Yorha stage plays (like Yorha Type A No. 4, who from what i've seen is constantly referred to as just "No4". For reference, two characters appear in the main game: No2 = A2, and Anemone), or novels which never call their characters by their full name (and here, I haven't been able to find a copy of the book online, but there are Yorha Boys character tags like Yorha No. 4 Type S).
There are also the small incongruences that make sense only if you know the story deeply, like how A2 and the other stage play characters have the type before and the number after for in-universe reasons.

The only valid argument towards the full factory names i've heard since the previous topic was made has been "2-character tags are too ambiguous", but at the same time, do we really want an 18-character tag for every single Yorha android, which differ between them by two/three characters? Those are the only two options available.
"But we can always alias the short names to the full names!"
Well that would happen if there weren't so many minor characters and people actually cared. If what @nonamethanks posted has been the only instance of "Yorha Type P No. 2" ever made, that means that 2P has been tagged with a "fake" name for at least a year, and noone bothered to alias 2P to the tag.

You edited your bur to point from 2p, but it should be 2p (nier).

Fixed, thank you.
As a heads-up, i would like to pool the reception for changing the names of characters which like 21O and 6O have never been called by their full factory name, but that will require a bit of research from my side, so it will come out a bit more into the future.
