Fur tag ambigous?

Posted under Tags

As I was editing the fur trim wiki, I originally used the fur tag for reference, but then saw that it's treated as an ambiguous tag even though it's populated with over 7700 posts. If the intent is to make the plain fur tag ambiguous, it's not doing a very good job of it. This makes things harder when there are colored fur tags like white fur, yellow fur, two-tone fur and so on that could implicate fur. Do we even want to keep the colored fur tags in the first place? And what should be done with all of those posts leading to a tag that is treated as ambiguous? I would've thought it was being treated as a tag that implicates many other types of fur like body fur, fur trim and fur (clothing).

If you are removing the tag you need to replace it with the appropriate ones (like the various fur trim tags for example) , not just nuke it.

I'm sort of reverse-engineering my search by doing a fur fur_* or fur *_fur search to find the posts that are appropriately tagged. That'll help filter out the posts that need actual replacement, instead of trying to search through every post one by one. Once that's all done, then I can change the tags myself.

That method is flawed. Just because a post has a fur subtag, doesn't mean it won't need to have the fur tag replaced by a more specific one. Just removing fur from posts such as post #4075935 isn't helpful.

Please don't change tags en masse if you don't know what you're doing.
