Tag rename: (9) -> circle_9

Just curious, is there any reason the OR search functionality can't be implemented exactly like it is in Gelbooru (ie by using curly brackets instead of parentheses)? This would save the hassle of needing to rename tags that have been around forever.

It could be, but it's much less intuitive. Parentheses for grouping is fairly common so people would be more likely to try it here than curly braces.

Might have something to do with the fact that we already use curly brackets to provide a link to a search?

The real problem is not with these tags (which are somewhat forced already) but the huge number of tags that are in the format x_(y). There are over 140000 tags which end in ) and if this feature requires all of them to be changed I don't think it worth it.

Maybe find a less intuitive but more usable way of grouping searches? Would something like the & symbol work?

These tags will work. The only limitation is that tags can't start with a "(". Because otherwise there's no way to tell whether a search like (ry or ;) means "the literal tag (ry or the literal tag ;)" or "the tag 'ry' or the tag ';', enclosed in parentheses". And I don't want to tell people "you can't use parentheses in searches like you would think because there are these weird tags called (9) and (ry and the Touhou people refuse to give them up".

Is there a reason not to make a tag with a circle_9 alias to it?

It's not a valid tag name anyway. They have to be ASCII now.

Bumping because it appears that the change to forbid tags starting with "(" has been pushed through, and it's no longer possible to add (9) to posts.

Until this alias gets approved, posts like post #5231821 are caught in limbo. The existing tag is now unusable and its intended replacement hasn't been created yet.

I just tagged it circle_9 for now. Easy to fix later if we decide upon a different name.
