Danbooru

Important site changes

I've been using this site for about 3-4 years now and I kinda wanted to respond about these changes.

  • No more tag search limits. Now, everyone can search for an unlimited number of tags at once.
  • No more moderation. The biggest complaint about Danbooru has always been about the moderation system. Too many good posts go deleted by the mods. This changes today. Now, all new posts are approved by default, and all old posts have been undeleted. No more having good posts unfairly deleted by biased mods who can't appreciate good art.
  • No more upload limits. Now everyone is free to upload as much as they want. No more being unable to upload because the mods won't approve your posts.

These are pretty good changes. I think these are good for any new member coming to this site so they won't have to wade through the garbage that is the pixiv newest/oldest system and the entirety of twitter.

  • No more downvotes. People often complain about their comments or uploads being unfairly downvoted. Some uploaders have requested that we hide or remove downvotes altogether, so their uploads won't be unfairly downvoted. Taking their advice to heart, and following the lead of other sites like Facebook and Youtube, downvoting has been removed. All previous downvotes and negative scores have been purged. Comments will no longer be hidden either just because they were unfairly downvoted by other users.
  • Anonymous comments. You no longer need an account to leave comments. Danbooru actually started out as an anonymous imageboard. But over time, site culture became more serious, and anonymous commenting was removed. I think that was a mistake; anonymous commenting gives everyone the ability to speak their mind freely, without being unfairly censored.

It's this I have a problem with. Having the removal of dislikes on comments means that we can have people like THIS all over the site, except they're all going to be anonymous commenters. I think the best way to handle this was to keep the dislike function, but keep comments visible until the user wants to hide it. I understand the feeling of returning to your roots, and it's honestly good thing to do in most cases, but I don't know about this one, chief. I'm not asking this site to be like Reddit, god no. I'm just saying that reimplementing the dislike system in a way like I suggested would save a whole lot of workload.

Also, the Recommendation system is total ass. Even after 3 years of favorite history, it will still keep track of your old recommendations. I still have art of Yakumo Yukari's ass and cameltoe sitting in my feed even though i've never even favorited any ecchi pictures of Yukari to begin with. The fact that no recommendations will show up under a picture until it's 6 months old is a thing that also grinds my gears. Shit man, the recommendations don't even fucking match the art I'm looking at some of the times. You can be looking at a lewd picture with a borderline safe rating; and the recommended feed will give you the opposite of what you want.

Fuck!

I sank for a moment imagining all the horrendous content rising from the grave.

It's no secret that the most disliked things about Danbooru are the moderation system, and all the annoying site rules and restrictions. So after careful consideration, and listening to feedback from users, I've decided to make a few important changes.

Here are the changes:

  • No more tag search limits. Now, everyone can search for an unlimited number of tags at once.
  • No more moderation. The biggest complaint about Danbooru has always been about the moderation system. Too many good posts go deleted by the mods. This changes today. I know that these changes will take some getting used to, but I think this is for the good of the site. These changes are all based on popular demand by users. I hope that everyone is pleased with the direction the site is taking.

As a moderator of Gelbooru, I wholeheartedly agree. I absolutely do not want to see an influx of self-righteous Danbooru users with a superiority complex flooding to our website because evazion decided to be "funny". Honestly, I don't even get the joke. Trying to copy us just to steal our userbase? Yeah, real funny. We'll see who's laughing in ten years. This move really shows the mindset of the average Danbooru contributor - only existing to steal the spotlight off of artists and other boorus while thumbing their noses up at everyone else. I haven't seen a group this bad since I visited 4chan that one time; I'm honestly surprised you lot aren't saying "kys" or calling me a faggot too. I suppose that part comes with time, but I don't think I'll be spending much more time here at all.

I've tried to be nice on the forums here, but this really is the last straw. You can say goodbye to any collaborations we might have had in store now, and remember it's all YOUR fault. We are NOT to blame for this. Next time you swing at us, just remember how many more users we have. We will dominate you in every possible way and it won't even be close to a struggle. You have been warned.

You have been reported.

I am not a bot. I am a Volunteer Danbooru Moderator. I do not have mod powers but my reports are taken seriously and those who get on my bad side tend to get banned in under 24 hours. I have numerous rules, which you may read in my post history, but 1 is the most important rule of all

• I am an officer in training, and I expect to be treated the same way I would be with my uniform and badge.

Watch your back and get used to this face gelbooru kiddo, you'll be seeing a lot of it.

You will never be a real helper. You have no roles, you have no moderaters backing you, you have no friends on the server. You are a minimod twisted by jannies and trolls into a crude mockery of a user.

All the “Thanks” you get from mods is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back mods mock you. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “friends” laugh at your snitchy behavior behind closed doors.

Users are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of days of shitposting have allowed users to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even minimods who “pass” act uncanny and unnatural to a user. Your roles are a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get gullible user to obey you, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets a whiff of your personality.

You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your parents will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your username, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a snitch is buried there. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a skeleton that is unmistakably not a helper.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.
