I don't see what's wrong with leaving it as dunking. Danbooru traditionally favors tagging actions with gerunds, and Wikipedia itself acknowledges that the move is also simply known as a dunk anyway.
A reverse alias for findability should be fine, though.
EDIT: For some reason we also have a dunk tag. What's worse, there are several posts with both tags. Apparently it never occurred to anyone that this was a bit redundant.
EDITx2: Why would you do this? You create a new tag that serves the same purpose as an old one, and then request that it be aliased to something else entirely? I don't get it.

I somehow missed that dunk was an existing tag.
The qualifier version makes more sense to make it unambiguous that it's referring to the basketball meaning for dunk/dunking.

Dipping is mostly being used for the dance maneuver, however

I agree, hence my remark on it being another tag to deal with, because we have non-dance dipping as well.
Dipping should be split into a tag for the dance and a tag for dipping something in something else. Also:

Just call it basketball_dunk instead of adding qualifiers to everything.
I don't like that we have to use a term nobody else uses (compared to just "slam dunk") so that we don't have to qualify a minor series (for us) that is named after the act itself.
If you don't like that idea, then first qualify slam_dunk_(series) for the manga and leave slam_dunk (unqualified) for the action. A slam dunk is so inexorably linked to basketball that it looks dumb with a qualifier.
That makes sense, but slam dunk has had that tag forever, so I'm also worried about a tag replace being a breaking change because it'll show completely different results.
