Tag is already used for scenarios with more than two wives, this would make it more accurate and cover any number of wives instead of multiple "husband_and_wife_and_wife_and..." tags

How about wife and husbands (or husbands and wife) as counterpart to husband and wives? Not sure about what to do with husband and husband and husband or wife and wife and wife since both would still be redundant even if you shortened them.
