Why can't you upgrade to Platinum rank anymore?

Just noticed that Platinum rank is no longer available, the only mention of it left is in the user levels wiki page, and I can't find a forum post talking about this
I'm not asking because I want to buy it right now, Only wondering about why it's discontinued

Upgrading right now at all is not possible due to external problems.

Platinum level is being discontinued and gold will/is the new Platinum.

I wish they would just allow for multiple tag searches while we're unable to get gold.

Does that mean current Platinum users are going to be made Gold or do we get to keep it?

I'm pretty sure evazion said it would stay as a legacy rank.

The Platinum rank and all benefits of have been grandfathered in for those who bought a piece of the pie before it was gone.
