That tag has no posts. At least upload one before requesting an implication, otherwise it'll just be deleted at weekly maintenance.

I would if I had more upload power haha.

    The problem is that avatar_(series) already exists as the umbrella tag for the Nick series. I agree that (movie series) is an ugly qualifier, but I'm not sure what a better name for the tag would be.

    I was thinking using _(film) for the James Cameron franchise. The existing umbrella tag for ATLA and Korra can stay as they are since there's no problems for that. I can also suggest _(james_cameron) if that's also acceptable.

    Will people then mistake it for the 2010 M. Night Shyamalan film, or does the power of Hollywood trademarks separate it enough?

    Alternatively, we could do something like james_cameron's_avatar for the umbrella.

    I don't know what you're talking about. M. Night shitonmyfavoriteseries never made a movie. So don't bring it up ever again.

  • Could go either way with James Cameron's avatar or Avatar (James Cameron); I like both

    I think that Nick tag should be also changed to avatar: the last airbender (series). The Wikipedia article for the franchise is called ATLA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender_(franchise) (rather than just the first TV series). I can only find, like, one or two instances where "Avatar" isn't followed by "The Last Airbender" (other than as a shorthand or localized name): there's a podcast that started last year called "Avatar: Braving the Elements" and sometimes The Legend of Korra is called "Avatar: The Legend of Korra".

    But as of 2021, the franchise is now called Avatar Legends (source 2, source 3). Though maybe it's not a good tag name if it's not the popular name. Brawlhalla's current crossover was titled "Avatar: The Last Airbender", but A Minecraft DLC also came out that is branded as Avatar Legends. It seems they particularly use that for anything that might feature stuff from both Avatar TV series.

  • Given that we have Tolkien's legendarium, which both fits the format of the proposed james_cameron's_avatar, but is also an uncommon way to refer to it outside of nerd/Tolkienist circles (in pop culture at least) akin to avatar_legends, I don't see an issue with adopting both these tags as umbrella tags for their respective series, and deprecating Avatar (series) and giving it a disambiguation wiki.

    I mean, if the IP holder themselves use that umbrella for their works, why not?

  • The bulk update request #13869 has been approved by @Hillside_Moose.

    create alias avatar_(movie) -> avatar_(2009_film)
    create implication avatar_(2009_film) -> james_cameron's_avatar
    create implication avatar:_the_way_of_water -> james_cameron's_avatar
    create alias avatar_2 -> avatar:_the_way_of_water
    create alias avatar_(series) -> avatar_legends

    Current proposal. Since the first movie had no subtitle, and the sequel isn't a straightforward "2" at the end, it's changed to a *_(*_film) format to be completely unambiguous.

    Last line is an update to the animated series' umbrella.
