Alternate BUR to remove tag.

If anything, perhaps candle should be the default, and there should be a tag for unlit candles. Or not. Lit candles are probably more common in art than unlit ones. The distinction between lit and unlit candles can set the mood of a scene, so maybe it's still important to tag.

this situation reminds me of an anecdote some comedian told once, where a woman asks a shopkeeper for "unsweetened tea" and he gives her a funny look. the joke is that unsweetened tea doesn't exist and tea without sweetener is just... tea, as such I would argue that "candle" should be perfectly sufficient to describe "candles that aren't lit". when you buy candles off the shelf, are they already lit?

then again, this joke obviously exists because enough people act it out every day, so it would be silly to throw sand at the ocean.

Anecdotal jokes aren't really applicable here. General policy is to make make tags for less common examples to make them easier to find. Candle has over 12k posts while lit candle has less than 200. Despite this, a quick glance through candle shows them to almost always be lit. As far as danbooru is concerned, being lit is the norm for candles. As such, it makes the most sense to create a tag specifically for unlit candles, so that they can actually be found among the 12k candle posts.

well, yes, I never claimed to be against it. I understand why terms like "unsweetened tea" exist, they help to quell the ambiguity of the state of the tea without need for further clarification, despite being pretty redundant. the anecdote was more food for thought than anything else.
