BUR #17930 has been rejected.
remove implication imi_galil -> assault_rifle
create implication imi_galil -> gun
This might be controversial subject. Not all of IMI Galil series of firearms can be classified as assault rifles. While creating additional tags like IMI Galil ARM or IMI Galil SAR can be somehow redundant in my opinion. And this tag should also be used to refer the South African-produced Vektor R4, which is visually identical to this original Israeli design. No significant difference between components, such as folding stock, sights, pistol grip, and more. See those posts for more reasons:
- post #1333214 and post #3820524 - IMI Galil ARM, light machine gun with notably big rectangular handguard, carry handle and bipod.
- post #1293721 - IMI Galil AR, the original assault rifle without bipod and slimmer handguard (curved).
- post #1987643 - IMI Galil SAR "Glilon", shorter variant (no easily distinguishable feature) of Galil AR.
- post #6409080 - IMI Galil 7.62, chambered in 7.62*51mm NATO. Therefore it's a battle rifle. Notice the thicker, straight box magazine. Unlike curved ones belong to the three 5.56mm counterparts.
Better to tag the types accordingly. Except we already have IMI Galil Galatz that is distinctively scoped with solid-bodied stock for sniper purpose, and all-black Galil ACE which has more "modern" features and different appearance from the predecessor.
I am willing to help tagging models more accurately yet not causing overlap and redundance, so please I do value your slightest votes regarding this issue - in order to support BURs into sooner handling (perhaps).
Related topic: BUR #17710. This issue is similar to how the tag SIG SG550 should not easily implicate assault rifle because for this model should also be applicable to the discontinued semi-auto only variant with scope that existed in limited number (SG550-1, post #5968791 as an example).
