Silicification/Calcification (Oripathy lesions and other rocks growing out of skin)

Posted under Tags

A tag which can aptly be described as: When minerals grow on the body like a mutation or disease.
What should the tag be for this phenomena? Arknights already adopted oripathy lesion, but I think oripathy is a made up word for Arknights.

Current ideas:

  • Silicification (A term used in Girls' Frontline to describe the affliction of ELID patients, where the skin, bones, organs and all begin to solidify)
  • Calcification (Similar to above, but exclusive to bone)
  • Mineralization (Not recommended, the name of a fetish for petrification in different forms like gold or silver)
  • Mineral growth (Simple but maybe not specific enough?)

I think something along the lines of inorganic_growth or material_growth could be a good tag.
Inorganic_growth could cover all minerals, metals, but technically wouldn't apply to something like horns or bones (which are made out of both organic and inorganic materials).
Material_growth seems quite broad, but could cover both inorganic_growth and more organic substances like wood, horns, maybe plants.

Silicification, in regards to GF, refers to process of the afflicted's bodily structure turning into Silicon. It's a good example for what you are trying to set, not a good name for a tag. Calcification for the same reason (although not necessarily limited to bone)
In similar vein to AK, we could try Mineral Lesion or as Miia suggested Material Growth

"Mineral lesion" sounds more self-explanatory than "mineral growth" on what the tag is to be used for.

Say, would post #6807494 also count for that hypothetical tag? Given it's Cirno, I think it's supposed to be ice, which I ain't sure counts as a mineral.

Perhaps that would be better served with a different tag. Something that perhaps broadly covers replacement of limbs or the entire body with one of the elements. It could named "elementalization" or something, but don't want to go too far off track from the thread.

Yes, oripathy is the name of the disease (basically rock cancer) in Arknights and the lesions have a pretty distinctive look of black minerals/crystals.

This risks being confused with petrification.

Hmm, maybe we need full petrification?

Stuff like post #5883737 definitely feels like it deserves a way to be searched separately from singular specks of growth.
Despite its wiki, crystallization doesn't seem to have ever been used synonymously with petrification though, with maybe the exception of the post above, post #7027005 and post #6172391, 2 out of which are mine. I don't think it's distinct enough to be kept separate from material growth.

It sounds like people want a tag for crystalline growths specifically. The problem with material growth is that the name doesn't communicate that specificity. Take post #3466107 for example. Should this be tagged material growth? If we say no, then we should change the tag to be narrower in focus.

I think the aforementioned mineral_growth or inorganic_growth is an improvement. Astolfo mentioned "rock cancer" in passing; while cancer is a sensitive topic, this would be very direct and to the point. Maybe leave material growth as a parent tag, or possibly transmutation disease?

It's been one month and this tag is still (6458/6718=96.1%) overlap. Did anyone care to populate other examples? Are there any?

The only other example that can reduce overlap to such an extent is Biboo... and I'm going through around 40+ pages of her arts to tag which ones qualify.
