Shorts, of the short and medium varieties

Posted under Tags

The wiki for short shorts indicates that it's exclusively for the type of shorts also known as "booty shorts" or "hotpants", whereas the naem alone would indicate it's for any type of shorts that's short. Shorts that have a short inseam but aren't tight (for example: post #3553597, post #3700754, post #6941544) are inconsistent as to whether they're tagged as short shorts. Just look at rosa_(pokemon) yellow_shorts short_shorts versus rosa_(pokemon) yellow_shorts -short_shorts - that's not far from an even split.

I would suggest making the tag based exclusively on length, with no regard for tightness or material. I'm not sure whether it would be better to make booty shorts or hotpants its own tag, or just ignore them and let denim shorts and bike shorts pick up the slack.

I'd also suggest making a new tag, medium shorts, for shorts that are legged lower body wear longer than short shorts but shorter than capri pants, like medium skirt.

The part about "booty shorts" reads more like an aside to me. The overall description seems more focused on the length and there's nothing indicating the list of materials is exhaustive (it says "usually," which leaves room for others). It's just as probable the writer used the term interchangeably with any pair of shorts that are short enough and did not consider others would see it as a brand-exclusive tag.

The same goes for hotpants, which isn't even in the wiki description. It's an implication, which is how we usually handle subcategories when we don't want an individual tag for them.

Both the hot pants and booty shorts tags used to exist (check the wiki history) before they were aliased into short shorts, so it's likely the wiki was changed because of that.

I went ahead and edited the short shorts wiki accordingly. Any objections to creating a medium shorts tag?

Wouldn't shorts without short shorts cover those? I thought in cases when a tag is split in two categories, we would usually give the less common category its own tag while using the more general tag by itself for the more common category. Capri pants would not be a third category for shorts in this case because we currently classify it as pants instead (note that shorts currently do not imply pants, so they are separate categories).

- You shouldn't need to use two tags to search one
- A significant portion of the posts in shorts -short_shorts probably should be tagged short shorts, but aren't, I assume to the tagger's lack of knowledge or the formerly confusing wiki
-- Medium shorts would unambiguously refer to longer shorts
-- Short shorts could very well take up half or more of shorts if it was tagged completely, so it's hardly a "less common category" (unlike capri pants, which is a small portion of pants
- There are cases where both appear in the same image, such as post #6828053 and post #2426814
