Currently, wire and related tags are an inconsistent mess. wire itself supposedly refers to only bare electrical wires while cable refers to insulated wires, except when wire is used for insulated wires because the tagger doesn't know about that distinction, and sometimes you can't tell whether a wire is insulated or not. wire can also be used for a type of weapon consisting of an unrealistically sharp wire used as a weapon, but that can also be a garrote, which can also be any cord-like object used for strangling, and piano wire is also there for some reason and its wiki page says "Also known as a garrote."

So here's how I propose we separate it:

cable is used for any electrical wire, whether insulated or bare.

Wire-based weapons have a new tag wire weapon.

garrote is used for when any sort of object (wire, rope, strap, belt, et cetera) is used, or seems intended to be used, as a ligature for strangulation.

I think you misunderstood the wiki, wire is for non electric wires. Uninsulated cables are mostly covered by power line. Your point still stands that it is a mess and people use cable and wire interchangeably.

We kinda need a tag for unspecified cords, ropes, lines, cables and/or wires though. Often nothing more than a single line in an image, determining if it is electrical or not can be downright impossible. Can you think of ways to tag post #5059301, post #6826045 and post #3364243.

+1 for the wire weapon tag, I would even suggest aliasing garrote and piano wire.

The tag's called wire. The wiki can say all it wants, the average user is not going to care.

I'll do this. If we want to deprecate wire then someone will need to come up with a list of tags to fully replace it.

We also have metal_wire btw.
