Tag discussion: biribiri, senou_natsuru

Posted under General

Two points involving these tags.

First, biribiri, I have no issues with its existence, and its well defined and implemented, but should it really be a character tag?

Secondly, should genderswap be applied to senou_natsuru? We discussed this earlier concerning Ranma, and while I didn't chime in there, I don't think "canon" genderswaps should be tagged that way, instead if they are numerous enough, the versions should get separate character tags, as is done with Ranma. I don't know if Natsuru has enough tags to qualify, and will most likely be overwhelmingly depicted as a girl.

I created this as a general tag, and someone turned it into a character tag along the way.

I think that the tag should be used in these cases. Whatever the canon, it's still applicable.

Mmm, if the tag is being used only to represent Misaka Mikoto, then character seems defensible. If it would be used on other characters then no. So I think we can leave it char. It's arguably somewhat like a costume or persona tag, though it sounds like a bit of a stretch.

As for canon genderswap... yeah, let's just stick to a simple definition that doesn't take canon into account as a modifier. So Natsuru can be genderswap.

Nobody who is looking for pictures of the Kampfer lead is looking for pictures of the dude. All adding "genderswap" does is:

1) Cause every image of that character ever to exist on danbooru to also come up in a genderswap search.

2) Validate the Kampfer creator's shoddy attempt to have his female lead and eat his harem cake too.

The same can be said of Ranma, who until recently was NOT tagged that way (admittedly, in that case I'd think a separate character tag for the female Ranma would be more appropriate). Hell, you could even say the same of Kyonko. But it makes a lot more sense in both of these cases than for Natsuru from Kampfer or the lead from Kashimashi, both of whom are "canon genderswaps" but might as well be female anyway because that's what they are all the time.

If every single image of a particular thing, place, or situation is going to have a particular tag, there might be some tag redundancy going on. It's unavoidable for things like physical descriptions, but is it really necessary here?

I mean, if there were some character who claimed to be a genderswapped male in canon, but was always in a female form the whole time, would we tag every image of that character "genderswap?"

Only if there aren't any intuitively obvious exceptions to such an implication whether they exist yet or not. We don't want to accidentally pen ourselves in or cause problems with automatic tagging down the road.

This is true only for Hazumu from Kashimashi, but definitely not for Natsuru - though it's hard to guess by all his appearances in Kampfer posts, I know :)
