Usage of Partially Submerged

Posted under Tags

I think it's kind of silly the way we use partially submerged right now.

Currently, the wiki states that it's for "Standing in water more than waist deep". This is good because it separates it from wading which is for "Standing or walking in water less than waist deep."

The issue lies in the second part. "...or lying, sitting, or kneeling in shallow water." These are fundamentally different things to me and don't help greatly with searchability. It'd be preferable to have different tags so that you can find posts like this without a post like this also coming up.

Sure, you could just filter out sitting, lying and kneeling from the search but that would also eliminate posts with multiple characters doing different actions where you'd miss out on these posts.

There's also mistags galore but that's across all the character-water related tags. That needs cleaning up and possibly might be a good idea to put examples in wikis to reduce such mistags.

Starting this topic for some discussion surrounding what to do/not to do regarding this tag, as well as potentially the other tags related to it.

My gut feel is that something along the lines of "approximately half or more of the character's body is underwater" is a good rule of thumb for partially_submerged and is probably the intent of that line about shallow water in the wiki. I.e., something like post #8902123 should count even though if the characters were standing the water would be less than waist-deep.

I don't know how to name a tag for sitting etc. in very shallow water (like post #8852696) without introducing further ambiguity and confusion, though.

Ghosted this topic but still hate the way things are because they didn't magically change like I hoped they would (the genie lamp I found was a scam).

Since initially creating the topic I've discovered the existence of several other water related tags. Gonna list them with their main wiki and tag count (at time of writing) for my benefit and for the benefit of discussion. Feel free to mention any I missed.
