Tagging actors on posts of live action copyrights

This seems to be done inconsistently and I'm not sure what the norm is supposed to be here. I'm currently uploading a series of color-themed, fashion-focused multiple drawing challenge style images by luztapiaart and she draws a lot of live action characters, so I figured I should ask about this.

To me it seems unnecessary to tag them on every single image as characters alongside the actual character tag. After all, they're portraying fictional characters and the artists are drawing said character. Personally I would only tag them on very realistic artwork (e.g. post #8143665) or posts featuring multiple characters played by the same actor, or that include insets of actual movie/tv stills.

But sometimes I see instances where they are always tagged, and I'm not sure if there's an established standard?

Personally, I think it's only really important to tag the actor when either:

  • The actor is themself part of the image as themself and not a character they play.
  • The post is under actor connection or making any other sort of reference to the actual person, making it important information to know who the actor is.

Otherwise, I don't really see a point in tagging the actor. It'd be like tagging the voice actor or singer of a song in every post with them as a character in it. I don't really know if that's the standard, but it's the one I personally roll with for myself.

I think there are times when you can ID the actor if the art is realistic enough but it might be subjective. post #417711 is tagged both Johnny Depp and Jack Sparrow whereas post #6274397 is only Jack Sparrow and I would disagree with anyone trying to add the actor tag since it's so stylized.

In general I agree that unless it's an actor_connection I wouldn't tag it.

Yeah, I'd agree with both of you. Like, post #8143665 being tagged Marilyn Monroe makes sense because it's basically a realistic depiction of her in character, while post #9615833 just depicts the character she plays.
