Deprecate "teeth" because the majority of pictures with this tag do not have teeth prominent enough

Teeth is a tag meant for "when the teeth are prominent", per Wiki. But of all posts tagged with teeth, only a small portion actually justify this tag. It is not a useful tag to search with, so I suggest deprecating it.

Instead, when teeth are prominent enough to be tagged, we can use more descriptive tags such as grid_teeth and realistic_teeth.

Have nothing more to add, just chiming in for support since teeth is useless and it's better to just use more specific tags like sharp teeth, upper teeth only, colored teeth, clenched teeth, ect.

Teeth in it's current state is like having a tag for hands or shoulders it's just a basic body part and found on most humans and is polluted by images like post #9362471 and post #9347180 where you can't even see the teeth.

Before teeth is deprecated, something needs to be done about upper teeth only and lower teeth only, both of which imply teeth.

Even if taggers only added images with prominent teeth to the tag it would still be full of images with characters just happened to have teeth anyway because none of the tags that imply it like clenched_teeth have the same rule.
If we really want a tag for images where teeth are prominent other then detailed_teeth then teeth_focus would be a better name.

If this BUR goes through we should remove the teeth from the posts with already existing more specific tags. Tempted to add grin but there are probably more specific examples in it missing sharp teeth or grid teeth

I went through 1737 posts in query grin teeth -sharp_teeth -grid_teeth -animated (rating:g OR rating:s) favcount:>=100 and only 5 of them need sharp teeth and one of them grid teeth. 3 of those 6 were posted 15 years ago or earlier. I think it's OK to add grin.

New tags were created for posts that actually focus on putting attention to detail to teeth after acknowledging that teeth was a complete mess, which in turn sprouted from someone asking if we had tags for realistic or detailed teeth. At this point it is safe to say that we can start working on getting rid of the plain teeth tag on posts. It really just ended up being a dump instead of a good tag to find something specific.

There's over half a million images with this tag, so maybe it's not a decision that should be taken lightly? The whole value of tagging images is that they are tagged permanently. If years worth of tagging gets nuked over technicalities like "none of these teeth are prominent enough" then what is the point of tagging anything in first place? imo teeth is a very obvious tag to use and any tagger can tell if there is teeth or not in an image. Plus upper_teeth_only is like 40% of teeth, so I feel like you could use the same reason to get rid of that tag and then similar tags until most of the more common tags are gone just because almost every image has them. Like there's 4 million images tagged breasts and they don't have prominent breasts. That's what breast_focus is for.

For prominent teeth you could just search for teeth mouth_focus. You don't need a new tag for this.

I doubt anyone is actually searching for teeth on booru, btw. If they ever use this tag, it will be combined with others like drinking_straw teeth.

I do use the tag actually, it's just often a pain because I need to exclude four tags to get anywhere close to useful results. Teeth + Mouth focus is a ton of fetish results that are not close to the same thing. What is desired is for teeth to be images like post #642184 or post #7342666 instead at the moment the first two results for teeth are post #9871559 and post #9871537 which I agree nobody is actually looking for.

This is a deprecation request which means the images still in the tag will stay until they've been cleared out and I'm willing to garden the remainders of the tag into the more specific teeth tags.
