Generally speaking, minus the exception of floral print which I disagree with on that front but understand that's a minority opinion, we don't typically make tags for specific prints like this. The fact all of these are only used on kimono (sash too) doesn't help either.

How would you find a butterfly print sash without a specific tag when such things are buried under the kimonos and even print fan. I think the current two tag approach for these is excessively flawed.

butterfly_print print_kimono is fairly accurate, and butterfly_print print_sash may have less results/false positives than you think. (These two tags should be mass-updated or tag scripted before nuking, obv)

Should be print_kimono and print_sash, not just kimono and sash.
The site's whole approach to print clothing tagging is stupid. You can tag every single item on a person's outfit that has frills and be fine, you can tag every single article of clothing that has polka dots, checkered patterns, and stripes (and we even differentiate between vertical and horizontal stripes) without issue, but god forbid you try to tag individual items with patterns we call "prints." For them you're not allowed to actually tag the individual item now, but instead you have to go through the moronic hoops of using only generic print item tags along side the pattern "print" name. It's a garbage approach and stupidly moronic double standard when no such issues exist with other patterns that we just don't call "prints." The generic print item tags are utter trash when we could actually be using more specific print item tags to indicate exactly what we're tagging like we're already doing with pattern tags.

I need you to understand the sheer amount of individual print tags we have. And more keep getting created day by day. If we created specific tags for specific prints, we'd end up with tags like duck print dress, duck print itself being, with slight rounding, 150 posts big. There is nothing wrong with the tag duck print existing. There is a problem with the tag duck print dress when it'd only ever end up used on, say, posts of the outfit Go Go Duck from Shining Nikki. This is a recipe for padding, especially with prints mainly seen on only one character.
This is why these "* print X" tags are typically frowned upon, and people tried very hard to kill "floral print x" itself, but at least there the base tag is so massive you'd avoid running into those above problems. And even then, admins were very hesitant to greenlight the implications of those tags, for the same reasons this BUR is currently being predominantly upvoted for.
In my opinion, those floral print tags are the exception that proves the rule. If you give taggers an inch here, they will definitely take it a mile. Hell, I have a feeling the very tags on the chopping block here were spawned in the wake of floral print being given the okay for specific tags. And naturally, started over kimonos too...

Sure there are a lot made, but for some of these prints we have should have specific tags instead this moronic approach of lumping them together like we're currently doing. Prints like butterfly print already have several thousand posts, and should be receiving more specific subtags. Your active suppression and hostility toward their development doesn't benefit the site by rejecting tags that grow receiving a better approach for them. The current approach only actively works when a print tag itself is small or underutilized, once they grow it makes more sense to give them more specificity especially since the print tag itself is used for any object or even image feature that has the print pattern making it very prone to becoming a trash tag and having more than one pattern or print featured in an image isn't rare.
Concerns of padding are overblown, it's very simple to see if a tag is padding or not by simply seeing if only one property makes up the tag.
