We use the full site's name for the tag, "VK" isn't really clear. See: bad vkontakte id.

Doesn't literally everyone call it "VK" though? Not just users, but also the site itself, and even Wikipedia uses "VK" as the main page (though it seemingly uses VKontakte and VK interchangeably). Apparently they moved their main tomain to "vk" in 2012. From what I can tell, calling it VKontakte seems pedantry.
If you were to ask me personally, yeah. "Isn't really clear" is more from the side of the users, at least I would imagine. VKontakte as a copyright tag is also the full name of the site instead of just "VK". Yes though, you pretty much understand it to be the specific site when you say "VK".
