When is posting a PNG not worth it?

If you find another copy of an image that is a png when the original is a jpg, is it worth posting even if it has a smaller resolution? Referring specifically to asset #17765096 and post #6996446.

You can zoom in to particularly contrast or detailed areas of the image and make your judgment
