jiangshi versus jiangshi costume

Posted under General

jiangshi by our own definition are undead monsters, a cross between zombies and vampires. Artwork depicting the jiangshi costume becomes particularly popular for Halloween and we are supposed to use it for all the cases when someone's dressed up as a jiangshi but is obviously flesh and blood.

In 95% of cases I've seen, it's pretty obvious when it's an undead monster (e.g. post #10174113 post #10118718 post #10064759 post #10044506), and when it's a girl being dressed up to provoke horniness (post #10090295 post #10117697 post #10158684 post #10159939). However, people just slap on the jiangshi tag and move on, so the jiangshi tag is massively and inaccurately overpopulated.

For my own sanity, I would like to solidify that the jiangshi should only be used for the monster. It should not be used for characters in jiangshi_costume and vice versa. I ask because I don't want to go gardening only for someone to go "ACKCHYUALLY" and undo everything because they've got a foolishly broad interpretation of the definition.

For the case of the Melody's Jiganshi outfit, she is in fact wearing a costume with dyed skin

I don't know how viable that strategy is when the thing that makes jiangshi recognizeable as jiangshi is the costume, or at least the qingdai guanmao with an ofuda, which makes it somewhat different from something like ghost and ghost costume, and vampire and vampire costume. Of course, the existence of mummy and mummy costume does give weight to your attempts, but I don't know how well gardened those tags are either (though mummy does have the benefit of having a type of undead not tagged elsewhere, which is embalmbed and dried up corpses, when jiangshi without their costumes are almost indistinguishable from zombies, especially if they don't do anything stereotypically jiangshi like the hopping).
