deprecate height_difference

Posted under Tags

BUR #50450 has been rejected.

nuke head_height_difference
create implication chest_height -> height_difference
create implication less_than_chest_height -> height_difference
create implication shorter_male -> height_difference

why did you change the wiki before even getting a conclusion here?

i thought that was what you were supposed to do? change the wiki first then make the bur? i remember someone making a deprecating bur without changing the wiki first and then getting told they should have made the wiki first then making the bur. which one is the right protocol?

it looks like people don't agree with deprecating height difference, so i guess nuke head height difference since it's the most common and implicate the ones that actually matter?

less than chest height sounds useful for searchability. chest height i'm less sold on, since that's basically most posts in height difference based on a quick look through.

what posts are you talking about? maybe the tag name is worded wrong or something because i tagged all the first 1000 posts in height difference and that became 92 chest height posts and 30 less than chest height posts. meaning 880 of the first 1000 posts or around 90% would be head height difference

i found a post with all 3 heights for reference

This post is unavailable.

Splitting the height difference like this feels like it's overcomplicating things for little benefit compared to just doing normal tag gardening.

maybe we don't need lower than chest height, but i think there needs to be at least something to indicate the character is shoulder height or lower since that's like 10% of height difference.

I think the proper order would be to propose the BUR, then change the wiki if and only if there's solid consensus to approve the BUR, then the BUR can be approved by an admin. Then if the BUR isn't approved, revert the wiki to its previous state.

There are three BURs in which NNT said to "write a deprecation wiki first," which could be easily interpreted as "Write a deprecation wiki before making the BUR" instead of "Write a deprecation wiki before I approve it." But it still should've been obvious that sweeping changes should not be made before a consensus has been reached.

Personally, I think the admins should write the deprecation wikis themselves after approving deprecation BURs so we don't have to deal with the mess of reverting wikis or accidently changing them prematurely. And if the admin needs more information before they can write the wiki, they should ask for it before approving the BUR.

Alternatively, a draft of the deprecation wiki could be written in the forum topic. This would be good for the more complex ones since it lets others weigh in and refine it if needed before the tag is deprecated.

btw there is a short male tag that for solo males like post #8273498. weird that there is no short female tag?

Short Male is specifically for the anime trope of abnormally short boys compared to their peers (think your Mineta Minorus or Hoshi Ryomas). There is no such trope around anime girls to my knowledge, so it isn't needed.

As for height difference...Dude, not gonna lie: I think you are being way too hasty with these BURs, most notably the utter failure to do any research into a tag of this size. Most people, it turns out, don't want to deprecate a useful tag of this size, especially with no good replacements. That's why a lot of your BURs are getting downvoted into oblivion.

If you want to help by cleaning up tags or what not, my advice would be to research the tag properly so that you don't end up making foolish proposals like this. Like research its history in the forums so you don't end up in a repeat of sweatdrop. Otherwise, you end up causing way more harm than good. If you can't be bothered to do that, then can you at least stick to areas of tagging you are knowledgeable in? You're creating a lot more work for everyone right now than actually helping.
