black_outline / thick_outlines -> thicker_outer_lineart?

i noticed that there is a tag for thick lineart that is just for the outer lineart but it's named like it has to do with outline tags

Thick outlines are present when a character or item's outer lineart is thicker or denser than what is common.

on the other hand i also noticed that black outline is the only outline tag that usually doesn't actually look like an outline because it's pretty much always used to tag something that has a black lineart already

maybe black outline should be used only when the outline is of a different color? otherwise i'm not sure what is the point of this tag

I think thick outlines is a pointless tag at the moment. I can barely find a handful of applicable results in the first 100 tagged posts.

The tag is not for "outer lineart", it's basically for things like post #10185104. If we want to keep it, someone needs to come up with a better name for it and salvage the results from thick outlines. Otherwise, it's a lost cause.

Source? The wiki says it's for that and that's how I've seen the tag used since always. And why would it need to be nuked if it's used for that.

Open the tag and look at the posts tagged with it. Posts under this tag can be divided in:

• the same usage as our other outline tags (thick_outlines white_outline)
• something like post #10487976 which is just thick lineart (yes, we already have a tag for it, why would peple tag it as "outlines"?)
• tons of random posts where there's neither thick lineart nor thick outlines (post #10018869, post #9948803). If this counts as "thick outlines" then everything on the site does

It is not just thick lineart, the outlines are considerably thicker than the rest of the lineart, which is exactly what the tag should be for.

Yes and?

A person or item in the image is surrounded by an outline in art, an outline is a line defining the outer edge of a figure (usually white or black and distinct from any lineart in the image)

You're implying that lineart and outlines are the same thing. That line of reasoning would make it impossible to search for actual outlines, that is, lines that surround the lineart. Do you see the difference between these two concepts? Between just the normal lineart, and an additional line of color surrounding the drawing between the lineart and the background?

If we have thick lineart, then thick outlines should either be merged with it, or reserved for lines OUTSIDE the lineart, surrounding it. Having thick outlines for both additional outlines and lineart makes no sense. It just becomes an additional padding tag that does not serve any searching purpose.

I think you misunderstand what lineart is, lineart refers to all lines defining the image, for example in post #10487976 including the pleats of the skirt and the outline of the necktie etc. Outlines are only the outer lines, the ones you would cut out along to make a sticker.

I am on my knees begging you to LOOK at the tags you're arguing about. Look at thick lineart and thick outlines. Open both on different tabs and try to figure out which post belongs where without looking at the tab title.

imo thick outlines has a lot of mistages because of the name. if it was called thick_outer_lineart people wouldn't tag something like post #10520678 and post #10185104 with it. the current name makes it sound like it's supposed to be used with white outline which isn't true

black outline and thick outlines should be "merged" into a tag for thicker outer lineart and a new contrast black outline should be created for the rare posts with a colored line art and an distinctive black outline assuming there is any post like that because i haven't found one yet

i made a quick favgroup with some obvious posts. what if we deprecated both tags so we can start gardening them? there is some truly ridiculous mistags like thick lineart and even monochrome posts being tagged as them right now

thick lineart already is 90% thick outer lineart. A rename won't do anything here, it would still be a massive overlap for no gain.
