Transformers tagging question

So was wondering this last night in this thread here topic #34397 but figure it's worth making its own thread to figure out, should there be separate per-series tags for TF characters (Not counting Shattered Glass as those are distinct characters) or should there only be one and the copy tag be used?

I do though the same thing about making distinctive TF characters, like those who come from G1 or Bayverse, but the question is, is it sufficient enough to make one?

I kind of commented on this in forum #410057, but before we can even discuss something like this, we need to do something about the glut of redundant character tags Transformers has, which were made without any forum discussion and have been allowed to just exist.

Like, why is Megatron (IDW) a tag when the_transformers_(idw) megatron would suffice? This then relates to Massonia's question, especially in light of something like topic #34391, where someone made distinct chartags for Idolmaster Xenoglossia's versions of characters (to the point of removing the original chartags, at least until the BUR in that topic readded them via implication). How distinct are they (forum #388827, forum #392277)? Is it something that gets brought up often in fanart? How much of a difference would it make to give them a chartag as opposed to just a chartag-copytag search like above?
