Neck_tie, Neck_ribbon, strange clothing on the neck?

Posted under General

I'm a bit confuse about the these when tagging. I understand that a neck_ribbon is a ribbon tied around the neck and such but I'm not sure if it must include details that it is tied.

A neck_tie is explained as A long piece of cloth worn around the neck, or shoulders in the wiki but that cause me to wonder even if it does not look exactly like the frequently used ones(post #839683 for example) should it still count because I have also seen post where people tagged pictures with the bows and such as neck tie too.

But the main thing that confuse me the most is this strange clothing that is on the neck (post #607540 and post #843717). The clothing does resemble a bow or neck ribbon but no sign of it being tied up is shown rather it is hidden under a jewelry of somesort so rather it look like a piece of clothing that was just stucked there. It also looks strangely like a neck tie but does not have the traditional look so I am stumped on what to tag them as.

Is there a specific name for these? Or should i just stick with either neck ribbon, neck tie, bow, etc and just tag it as I see fit or just tag all three/as much related neck clothing tag as possible?

Sorry for the bother and I would be grateful if someone could help.

Ribbons have to be long and narrow in general.

post #844003 on the top of her hair is a ribbon. What is trying he tails together is a bow.

It does have to be tied, but not in a bow.

Basically if the material that makes up the tail of a bow is far longer then the width of the bow it is a ribbon.

A nick tie is a scarf. The exact definition is a bit tricky. Someone else probably could say it better.

This is a scarf I will say is tied in a cravat knot. Cravat for short.

This is a scarf tied in an ascot knot. Ascot for short.

Jewelry itself is a broach. Probably should tag that.

I generally agree with what you are saying, but a neck tie is certainly not a scarf. A scarf is a wider, looser garment either warn for warmth in one sense (post #844289) or to cover the hair/face for cleanliness or modesty in another (post #817839).

I can see something like the latter tied around the neck or shoulders as a scarf as well (ascot or cravat), and the ancestors of the neck tie may be derived from this usage. Regardless of this fact, however, a modern neck tie is not a scarf.

The reason I called it a scarf is that as far as I know it is descended from a cravat. Assumed it still would fall under scarf.
