Aliasing walking_stick -> cane.
Same thing.

I think instead of aliasing, it might be worthwhile to use cane only for those with the curved handle and have walking_stick for the broader ranges of shapes.
We could then have cane implicate walking_stick, though there could very easily be cases where you have the cane shape that isn't a walking stick.
I dunno. Seems kinda random to me to call something like in post #607124 a walking_stick.
If we're to make a separation I'd rather split between fashion / practical accessory (you'd potentially end up with curved handles in both then).
I've no strong opinion on this still.

If it can be reliably tagged, I like this distinction.
What of a split of the cane tag since technically "cane" is merely a shape description. For example walking cane might do well. It would not hurt to keep in mind canes that conceal a weapon, such as swords, knives, or a projectile weapon.
No idea how to identify the hair decoration cane or even the christmas decoration variety.

You mean candy canes?

That would qualify, but what of the light-up sidewalk decorating variety? That was what I originally had in mind.
It also occurred to me that a cane could be a long pithy plant stalk as well...
