Tag Alias: >:D -> >:)

Posted under General

I made the wiki entry for >:D (before you merged the tag) because I tend to think expressions should be described by a single tag when possible (I hate how dumb smile open_mouth is with so many posts for each tag, and same goes for frown after you merged >:<).

I was planning on requesting implications from both >:D and >:) to defiant_smile and keep it entirely separate from smile.
I don't like to end up with uber umbrella tags used as components for combinations because it stacks clutter when you're then searching for that tag alone.
smile -open_mouth -grin -frown -closed_eyes -wink. Things like this.

So -1 here.

I'm OK with this option. Alternately, >:D could instead implicate >:) and :D. It seems to me that the tags are too closely related not to have some sort of connection.

I merged the >:< tag because I had a had time telling what I was looking at. I thought it was a >_< variant, not a :< variant. It's a slightly visually confusing tag and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Guess I'll go with this. There's only one post in it though, after all.

There were 2 or 3 pages before the merging occurred, and it was only my doing when randomly meeting posts, so the potential count would be way higher.

To me, :D is a large cheerful smile. I see a lot of posts tagged this way that I would only tag smile open_mouth (post #946722, post #946006) because it's not close enough to how you'd use the emote. I may have a more specific understanding of this tag than other users so.

>:) and >:D aren't cheerful or friendly to me but rather provocative or mischievous (post #799829, post #865911, post #742219, post #180133).
Since they match a different type of expressions I wouldn't want to see :D tagged at the same time, though I wouldn't mind with just smile.

If the ">:D" emote makes things too ambiguous I'd rather simply drop it in favor of >:) open_mouth rather than getting :D implicated.

I hear you on that. Now that :< is a huge tag I think additional tags are needed to give a more precise description of the character's face (like :< embarrassed and :< flat_gaze aren't the same thing for example).
Since oreimo came out the >:< expression has become rather common, and it's more specific than simply :< frown.
Anyway there's no simple way to fix this I guess. If there was an emote for :d ^_^ just like :d >_< is xd and so on we would be using them right now.
